Jaeger-LeCoultre has captured my attention with the addition of the first minute repeater to the Ladies Rendez-Vouz Collection: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Ivy Minute Repeater. As its name suggests, this ivy-encrusted timepiece is of undisputed elegance – and that elegance is much more than skin-deep. In 2012, Jaeger-LeCoultre debuted the Rendez-Vouz Collection to provide women the chance to own serious mechanical complications – rather than the more ubiquitous "downscaled" mechanical versions, or the usual dressed up quartz.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/jaeger-lecoultre-rendez-vous-ivy-minute-repeater-watch-women/

The number one complaint the Swiss watch industry has had toward the most current crop of smartwatches is that they aren't attractive by European design standards - and that even applies to the Apple Watch. Jean-Claude Biver went so far as to suggest that, given his standards, the Apple Watch looks as though it was designed by a student. Again an impressive manufacture that we wanted to share with you here, on Monochrome-Watches. This Weekly Watch Photo column is for us a very pleasant way to show you amazing pictures of watches, and for this week, it is quite a piece of art: Christophe Claret. The brand represents the essence of the complicated, non-compromised horology with strong design, such as the X-trem-1, gaming-oriented timepieces with the Poker Watch or modern interpretations of the classical watchmaking with, for example, the Soprano. Far away from the spotlights and the glossy displays, here are some watches of the actual collection into the nature.http://monochrome-watches.com/weekly-watch-photo-christophe-claret-collection/

There are only a few real icons in the world of Haute Horlogerie. Think Patek Philippe Calatrava, Rolex Submariner, Datejust and Daytona, Cartier Tank, Omega Speedmaster and also the Breitling Navitimer. All these watches have an impressive history and have been on the market – in a relatively unchanged design – for many decades. Here’s another one that can easily be called an icon, although it was introduced only 20 years ago! We’re talking about the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1. http://monochrome-watches.com/lange-sohne-lange-1-review-exclusive-photos-price-specs/

Watchmaking of today is strongly based in what was discovered some good century (or two) ago. Let’s face it – the chronograph, the perpetual calendar, the minute repeater – all this high horology complications, not to mention every smaller one, came to life ages before the great creation of our time, thanks to which you can read this text now – the internet – was even considered a possibility. Breguet invented the mighty tourbillion more than 200 years ago – believe it or not.http://blog.dreamchrono.com/2014/10/tudor-fastrider-blackshield-hands-on/

The world is full of spectacular, ridiculous and amazing watches. And while we understand that these timepieces are not for 99.99% of the population, that’s not why tell you about them. These watches are not about the real world – they’re art, mechanical marvels and micro engineering all rolled into one. And the Montblanc Metamorphosis II just released is a great example of the high concept watch.http://timeandtidewatches.com/montblanc-metamorphosis-ii/

We all know of Zenith’s high profile involvement with extreme athlete/adventurer Felix Baumgartner (which most recently culminated in this outstanding and exclusive turquoise-dialed Christophe Colomb Gravity Control timepiece), but I thought we take a moment today to look at a less high profile form of adventure that the brand has more recently become involved with, sailing. In its capacity as official timekeeper for the Spindrift racing team since 2014, it was only natural that Zenith might issue a commemorative timepiece or two.http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/zenith-el-primero-stratos-spindrift-racing-watches/

Scudding through New York Harbor amid bobbing sailboats, looming fuel barges and the orange-hulled Staten Island Ferry, Brian Cohen’s $2.5 million Gunboat 55 catamaran is an island of calm. Guests sip a crisp Sancerre at a table in the yacht’s teak-decked salon as Cohen steers the boat downwind toward Manhattan. The stiff sea breeze quickly propels the 55-foot Rainmaker past 16 knots, or 18mph.http://www.forbes.com/sites/danielfisher/2014/09/11/on-a-gunboat-catamaran-you-can-have-your-martini-and-30-knots-too/

In 2013, Topper’s first year as a Mühle Glashütte dealer, our best selling watch of the brand was the Seebatallion. For those unfamiliar with that watch, the Seebatallion is Mühle Glashütte’s extension of their popular S.A.R. Rescue-Timer. Its most signature aspect was the way that it combined the features of a dive and pilot watch. It also featured an attractive and somewhat conservative blue dial. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/muhle-glashutte-kampfschwimmer-watch-hands/

Although it’s best known for its sport models, Omega has always produced a large variety of timepieces that could be worn in almost any circumstance. During a visit at an Omega Boutique, I was surprised to find that my attention wasn’t focused on the timepieces I’m usually most impressed with. Yes, I saw the new Seamaster 300 in all its glory, I worshipped the Speedmaster once more, I was just torn apart by the Ploprof (happens to me almost every time, and then thoughts of selling a kidney come to mind). But what grasped my attention was a 40mm dress watch, luxurious but austere, well proportioned and so complete in every aspect: the Omega De Ville Tresor, a re-edition of a 1940’s watch produced by Omega.http://monochrome-watches.com/omega-de-ville-tresor-live-photos-price/

A few years ago at Baselworld, Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens, showed me a prototype of a new watch he was working on. Mintiens explained that, while looking at a bottle of water on his table, the back of the label, which was on the opposite side of the bottle to him, looked as though it was on his side of the bottle. Curious, he discovered that this effect is caused by the eye being fooled because it is used to seeing light passing through glass/air rather than glass/water.http://quillandpad.com/2014/10/06/how-do-they-do-that-the-ressence-type-3/

In 2012, Jaeger-LeCoultre originally debuted the Spherotourbillon ref. 6052520 (aka Q6052520) watch, and we revisit it again now, with some better pictures, and after having reflected on the model two years after its initial novelty has mellowed into today's more mature look at this mega-timepiece. aBlogtoWatch first took a hands-on look (with video) at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Spherotourbillon watch here. Visually stunning, the irony of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Spherotourbillon is that it is neither spherical nor a tourbillon - but that was the most interesting name Jaeger-LeCoultre was able to offer to the unique bobbing regulator system with its cylindrical balance spring.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/jaeger-lecoultre-duometre-spherotourbillon-watch-revisited/

After some hands-on time with the Apple Watch, I've learned a few things. Perhaps the most important of which is that the majority of discussions regarding the Apple Watch by the traditional watch media have been rather misguided. I feel that people need to understand that the Apple Watch is not only a new type of product for Apple, but the first real "cross-over watch" that wades in both the waters of technology and horology. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/apple-watch-hands-on-review/

Science, mystery, and beauty: three things that have inspired humans for millennia and led to the creation of some of the most remarkable objects in the history of mankind. The “holy trinity” (that’s what I’m calling them) is responsible for sparking the passions of many creators, and I will attest to being one of them. I find intense joy and satisfaction in attempting to construct objects, images, or spaces that satisfy the demands of the holy trinity.http://quillandpad.com/2014/08/18/oblivion-the-holy-trinity-and-the-jaeger-lecoultre-hermes-atmos/

It is no secret that besides blogging about watches for fratellowatches.com, I also love to collect watches — especially iconic watches like the Rolex GMT-Master, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Rolex Datejust and, of course, the Omega Speedmaster Professional. I own several of the last model. Ever since I bought my first Speedmaster (15 years ago this coming October 1st) I have been hooked on this watch. Not only do I love the design of this chronograph (one of the most clean chronograph dials around); I also like its connection to the Apollo space program.http://www.watchtime.com/blog/fratello-friday-how-snoopy-ended-up-on-an-omega-speedmaster-dial/

The first pilot’s watch was created in 1904, when Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont explained to his friend Louis Cartier that it was difficult to fly and read a pocket watch at the same time. Cartier’s solution became one of the cornerstones of its timepiece business: the Santos wristwatch. But the style truly took off in the 1940s, when companies like A. Lange & Sühne, IWC, Omega and Zenith added pilot’s watches to their roster. http://www.forbes.com/sites/hannahelliott/2014/09/10/flight-time-the-rise-of-the-pilots-watch/
