Bulgari is known for its focus on design, but the brand’s Diagono Ceramic is durable as well. Alexander Krupp takes a closer look at the watch in a piece from the the WatchTime archives. Every so often the landscape of the watch industry shifts: a key brand gets sold to a major watch group and the balance of power changes ever so slightly. In the few years since we last covered the big groups’ holdings, some important changes have occurred: Harry Winston is now part of the Swatch Group, Kering has acquired Ulysse Nardin, and both Citizen Group and Citychamp have made inroads into the Swiss watch world.http://www.watchtime.com/featured/who-owns-what-a-guide-to-the-watch-groups/?utm_source=WatchTime+Daily+Update&utm_campaign=73320f6c1f-Sunday+Summary&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8338768216-73320f6c1f-[LIST_EMAIL_ID]&ct=t%28Sunday+Summary%29&mc_cid=73320f6c1f&mc_eid=[UNIQID]

In my book, a minute repeater is the ultimate complication. Of course, a tourbillon is a feast for the eyes, and a perpetual calendar dial filled with apertures for day, date, month, year and moon phases is brilliant, but a minute repeater, to me, offers the most sensational experience. Most minute repeater movements have hammers hitting gongs to indicate the hours, quarter hours and minutes. This year, however, A. Lange & Söhne came out with a decimal minute repeater, which strikes every 10 minutes instead of on the quarters, as you have likely guessed. The watch — A. Lange & Söhne’s Zeitwerk Minute Repeater — is not the first timepiece that uses this concept; other brands such as Breguet and Seiko have also created decimal repeaters, though they remain exceedingly rare.http://www.watchtime.com/blog/reviewi-a-lange-sohne-zeitwerk-minute-repeater/?utm_source=WatchTime+Daily+Update&utm_campaign=1c6e0ffa1c-WT+Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8338768216-1c6e0ffa1c-14531153&mc_cid=1c6e0ffa1c&mc_eid=1436559a32

Since 1777, the respected and innovative haute horlogerie brand Perrelet has embodied excellence in the art of time measurement. The brand has tirelessly cultivated the watchmaking heritage of its founder, Abraham-Louis Perrelet and his successors. It is indeed one of the world’s rare watch manufacturers proud of its in-house mastery of all aspects involved in the development and production of its prestigious timepieces; from the first sketch of the initial concept to final execution, and all the many steps in the production of watch components, including the balance-spring and the escapement.http://news.watchprosite.com/?show=forumpost&fi=112&pi=6913898&ti=986643
If you’re on your way to the post office or struggling to e-file your 1040 forms today, try to think about the possible reward at the end of the tax-year rainbow. While most filers won’t see a pot of gold, we hope more than a few of you will see enough–eventually– to help finance a new timepiece. We suggest not to seek advice from your accountant.http://iwmagazine.com/2015/04/eight-watches-to-spend-your-tax-return-on-2/?hootPostID=33f243febcf5080ef8fd02a976669a0e
It’s weekend! We decided to come up with some easy-to-digest content for the weekend, as you’ve probably been doing enough reading all week. From now on, we will publish our Weekend Watch Lists feature every weekend, to show you overviews with information about the consumer watch market. Our overviews are based on data from on-line watch consumers. Per list we will indicate the countries from which we used the data, as this will vary to keep it interesting. It will be interesting to see how much taste in watches can differ per country and continent. Data is retrieved from Chronolytics.ch, watch market research company that operates under the flag of Ebner Verlag (publishing house of magazines like WatchTime, Uhren Magazine, Chronos etc.).http://www.fratellowatches.com/weekend-watch-lists-top-10-german-watch-brands/

‘Blue is the new black’… For approximately 2 to 3 years now, we’ve seen many watches launched with a blue dial, watches from every brand, every price range and for every use. Blue is indeed a big trend (we’re not complaining) but this colour doesn’t fit every timepieces. However, there is one that we know to be superb with this tint: the Vacheron Constantin Overseas – as seen with the chronograph edition. Now Vacheron Constantin comes with limited editions of the Overseas Time-Date and Dual-Time with this same blue dial. http://monochrome-watches.com/introducing-the-vacheron-constantin-overseas-now-in-ultramarine-blue-limited-editions-specs-price/
Since June of 2010, Hayek has been the chair of the Swatch Group’s board of directors. She became CEO of Harry Winston in January 2013, after Swatch Group acquired the brand. Following the Swatch Group’s takeover, a continuation of the Opus series seemed in doubt to me, though in an interview at Baselworld 2014, Marc Hayek did reveal that he and his family loved the Opus series and that he foresaw a continuation.http://quillandpad.com/2015/05/20/the-harry-winston-opus-series-a-complete-overview-from-opus-1-through-opus-13-2/

Parmigiani Fleurier’s Haute Horlogerie aims to improve on age-old tradition through innovation. Thanks to its interest in the cultures and histories of time, the brand’s watchmaking is open to all kinds of possibilities. The Toric Kaleidoscope radiates with mystery and elegance, although its thickness makes it look a tad chunky.http://www.0024watchworld.com/parmigiani-fleurier-presents-the-toric-kaleidoscope/

“Carol of the Bells” is one of my favorite songs regardless of whether it’s the Christmas season or not. I just love the interplay of the chimes; it’s simply mesmerizing. My love affair with this song actually started when I was a young child, growing up in a Lutheran church community in central Minnesota.http://quillandpad.com/2015/05/17/bulgari-daniel-roth-carillon-tourbillon-passion-begins-early/

Learning cross-country navigation was one of the skills we needed to master in Primary Flight School. Radio aids, which pilots constantly use to help them keep tabs on their position, were not allowed; it was all “dead reckoning.” I believe the proper spelling for that phrase is “de’d reckoning,” a contraction for “deduced reckoning.” With an E6-B circular slide rule we calculated the magnetic course we needed to fly on each leg of our flight, and also the time it would take to get from point A to point B. The proper solution always depends on the forecast winds you will be encountering en route, so a meteorologist was available to give us the wind speed and direction at the altitude of our flight.http://home.watchprosite.com/?show=forumpost&fi=17&pi=6959538&ti=991713

We are all aware that the Rolex Daytona is one of the main attractions in auctions. Recently, we showed you a very nice and rare example of a Daytona Paul Newman transitional 6264, that will be auctioned soon in Monte-Carlo. This one was already a rare bird, complete with papers and boxes, and a reference number rare enough to set the estimation at € 150.000 Euro – an ‘impressive’ estimate for a ‘Dayto PN’. However tonight, 22 July 2014, there is another Paul Newman Daytona that might get collectors even more exited. It will be auctioned by Artcurial in Monte-Carlo, and this one could break the ceiling, with an estimate of € 200.000 – € 400.000 Euro: a Rolex Daytona 6263 Paul Newman with a tropical ‘Coffee’ dial and a unique pedigree. Big question: insane or justified?http://monochrome-watches.com/ultimate-rolex-daytona-6263-paul-newman-tropical-coffee-auctioned-today-artcurial-insane-justified/

US-based watchmaker Nicholas Manousos has developed the world's first 3D printed tourbillon. Named the Tourbillon 1000%, you can order one to own, and it is part of a larger movement project that Mr. Manousos has been working on for the last few years. Sooner than later, 3D printing technology will be able to produce fully functioning clocks and watches, but we are only now seeing the potential. Nicholas Manousos is a watchmaking pioneer.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/3d-printed-working-co-axial-tourbillon-1000-nicholas-manousos-hands/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Ablogtowatch+%28ABLOGTOWATCH%29
One of the more interesting and boutique timepieces I got to review over the last year has been this meteorite-dialed version of the Bovet Amadeo Fleurier 43 watch. There is a lot to discuss and some interesting hidden features in what is a pretty cool watch if the style and price match your needs.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/bovet-amadeo-fleurier-43-meteorite-watch-review/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Ablogtowatch+%28ABLOGTOWATCH%29
At Baselworld, MB&F was accompanied by a high-profile friend in the shape of Reuge. While those in the watchmaking know are accustomed to this name, it was a delightful discovery for the public at large. The hundred year old company is indeed one of the last remaining developers and producers of hand-crafted music boxes.http://en.worldtempus.com/article/industry-news/reuge-l-effet-mbf-1817311
Here at Monochrome-Watches we do appreciate the practicality of World Timers. You, our readers, are from all over the globe and so are we, the entire Monochrome team. Being in touch with each other, via Facebook or Skype, or when traveling, a world-timer is a great tool everyone with contacts around the world. The Girard-Perregaux Traveller WW.TC is certainly one of the best example of such a timepiece, with its informative and legible dial. And now it comes in a more refined case, made of 18k pink gold.http://monochrome-watches.com/girard-perregaux-traveller-ww-tc-pink-gold-hands-on-live-photos-specs-price/
I've seen the black and white versions of MOP dials on FPJ's before, but this was my first encounter with a "grey" dial and I immediately fell in love... The perceived "depth" of the pearl dial combined with the extra-thick printing produces a very 3-D timekeeping experience! Also, the different colored hands - gold hand for power reserve matching the printed text on the pearl and blued hands for the subdials - add another layer of charm for this piece.http://home.watchprosite.com/?show=forumpost&fi=17&pi=6542043&ti=944963
Cabestan and their star watch maker Eric Coudray have debuted a new timepiece for 2015 that is technically interesting and in line with the avant-garde luxury watch brand's established theme. Cabestan is over a decade old but has lived through a rough time, having multiple owners (on owner number three right now, I believe) and having to survive the financial crisis. The coolness of the brand has allowed it to endure, and the brand's newest timepiece creation is the Cabestan Triple Axis Tourbillon which I got to spend a bit of time with at Baselworld 2015.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/cabestan-triple-axis-tourbillon-watch/

Hear the phrase “solid gold watch” and you might imagine the sort of thing A$AP Ferg or Floyd Mayweather would wear before a performance. But F.P. Journe has debuted an alternative to such outré bling – it’s gold, yes, but just about as understated as it comes for a $50,000 timepiece.
To everybody who likes watches this might sound familiar: when it comes to purchasing a new watch your friends, family members or colleagues might seek out for advice from you. Not too long ago a friend of mine asked me which vintage Omega he should buy. His criterions were: it should be reliable, shouldn’t break the bank, can be used as a tool and have a nice wrist presence. So when he asked me which watch should he get I gave him some buyer’s advice and said “Omega Speedmaster (Professional) Mark II”. If you are into vintage and fancy any or all of the above features this is the watch for you too.http://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-vintage-speedmaster-mark-ii-buyers-advice/
Introduced just this year, Breguet’s Classique Grandes Complications Tourbillon Extra-Thin Automatic 5377 represents another step in the manufacture’s iconic innovation. The timepiece is powered by a caliber 581DR movement containing 42 jewels. Its barrel is mounted on roller bearings and it features an inverted lateral lever escapement in silicon a silicon balance spring, reducing friction and thus its maintenance over time. The extra-thin movement also features a tourbillon and powers functions including hours, minutes and power reserve indication. The tourbillon is showcased at 4 o’clock on the dial in addition to Breguet’s signature silvered and engined turned patterns. http://iwmagazine.com/new_watches/breguet-classique-grandes-complications-tourbillon-extra-thin-automatic-5377/

While Omega’s new Globemaster range was one of the brand’s more discussed launches at this year’s Baselworld, its latest Seamaster Chronograph edition for Team New Zealand (ETNZ) was probably one of the most overlooked new releases — which is reflected by how difficult it still is to find official information about it. Fortunately, we at DiveIntoWatches.com had the chance to briefly handle one of these watches at Omega’s HQ in Bienne. Hence, this photo-heavy essay on it for this week’s edition of Dive Watch Wednesday:http://www.watchtime.com/blog/hands-on-with-omegas-latest-seamaster-etnz-chrono/?utm_source=WatchTime+Daily+Update&utm_campaign=1532f2628e-WT+Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8338768216-1532f2628e-14531153&mc_cid=1532f2628e&mc_eid=1436559a32

The popular Victorinox Swiss Army I.N.O.X. ("INOX") watch collection gets expanded for 2015 with a range of interesting new models including a few that are limited editions. Victorinox Swiss Army has done really well with the INOX during its first year for sale, meaning that consumers responded well to these good looking, fairly-priced, and durable Swiss quartz watches. aBlogtoWatch offered our own hands-on review of the Victorinox Swiss Army INOX watch here. So for 2015, how does Victorinox Swiss Army follow up? The good news is that nothing is really changed about the Victorinox Swiss Army INOX collection, but rather the collection is supplemented with more good stuff.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/victorinox-swiss-army-inox-watches-2015-red-remade-naimakka/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Ablogtowatch+%28ABLOGTOWATCH%29&hootPostID=0f4868c1f86cfc70c89e411da7c4856b
