At Baselworld 2016, Seiko's very high-end arm Credor released a limited edition piece that features the very first tourbillon movement by Seiko. At first, I was a little surprised, but the fact is that tourbillons are actually hard to find in Japan, and the collectors there are generally pretty tepid on the tourbillon. If watch brands stopped coming out with products like this, I would probably stop going to Baselworld. I might not ever be in a position where I have a spare 280 grand lying around to buy a Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon, but I am sure as hell happy at least a few people out there do. These days, if it says "Toric" and the watch is a Parmigiani, you can be mostly sure of two things. First, that the watch is more than likely a one-of-a-kind "piece unique"; second, that it is a minute repeater. Parmigiani Fleurier produced series "Toric" models in the past, but today, I believe, these high-end watches are almost exclusively produced as one-of-a-kind art watches to satisfy the brand's more "esteemed" clientele. Ball has released many versions of their Engineer Hydrocarbon watches through the years, all featuring the unique case sporting that memorable crown guard and bright, tritium gas tube-lumed dial. Unveiled at last year's Baselworld 2015, the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon AeroGMT watch provides the legibility, construction and material quality, and masculine looks the line is known for and takes it a step further by introducing the first ever tritium gas tube illuminated bezel. I've now spent a couple of months wearing this watch, and I still feel like a kid when I see the normally mostly black-and-white-with-touches-of-yellow dial illuminate to a bright green, blue, yellow and orange dial in the dark. Zenith's President & CEO Aldo Magada and SVRA's President & CEO Tony Parella hosted a cocktail party on February 18th at the Classic Car Club Manhattan in New York City. This is a world famous private club that gives its members access to a fleet of the most sought-after cars ever built.
