Perpetuelle readers know that big horological things have been happening at Montblanc for several years now. For just one example, take a quick trip back to 2010 when Montblanc turned heads with its Metamorphosis complication watch (and Perpetuelle was new the watch blogging scene, too!). Looking back on it, the name ‘Metamorphosis’ was all too apropos for what was and is underway at Montblanc, but this is really a story for another day. http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/revealed-the-montblanc-metamorphosis-ii-with-video/

For 2014, TAG Heuer has once again released a brand new version of its iconic Formula 1. This time, the Formula 1 gets a totally unique automatic mechanical range to supplement the Formula 1 quartz watch offerings. Over the last few years, TAG Heuer has really gone all over the place in regard to trying to figure out what to do with its Formula 1 range. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/tag-heuer-formula-1-automatic-chronograph-watches-2014-hands/

In 2013, it had become apparent that the case style of Louis Vuitton’s Tambour eVolution had undergone a great deal of evolution (as the name suggests). Originally introduced in 2002 as the luxury fashion giant’s entrée into the world of horology, the Tambour has come a long way since that first watch whose original shape was inspired by a taiko drum.http://www.forbes.com/sites/elizabethdoerr/2015/02/27/spin-time-louis-vuitton-announces-three-new-tambour-evolution-models-during-baselworld-2015/?utm_campaign=ForbesLife&utm_source=TWITTER&utm_medium=social&linkId=12611316

At BaselWorld 2014, Breguet revealed two extremely complicated "halo-pieces," humbly titled the Breguet Classique Complications 3795 and 3797, each featuring a tourbillon, perpetual calendar, and, in the case of the former reference, an extensively and exquisitely skeletonized movement and dial. We went hands-on with both the Breguet Classique Complications 3795 skeletonized watch, as well as the non-skeletonized 3797 version in red gold. Given that these pieces are very much indicative of what the modern Breguet is capable of when it comes to both technical complexity and quality of finishing, we were curious to see what a closer look would reveal.http://www.ablogtowatch.com/breguet-classique-complications-3795-3797-tourbillon-perpetual-skeletonized-watches/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Ablogtowatch+%28ABLOGTOWATCH%29

Rolex, a brand known for keeping things mostly traditional in its watch designs, made a somewhat bold aesthetic statement at Baselworld 2015 this week, introducing a striking black-and-gold version of its Rolex Yacht-Master, which also features the brand’s innovative “Oysterflex” bracelet in matte black.http://www.watchtime.com/blog/baselworld/baselworld-2015-rolex-everose-gold-yacht-master/?utm_source=WatchTime+Daily+Update&utm_campaign=4f7d2ee90e-WT+Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8338768216-4f7d2ee90e-14531153&mc_cid=4f7d2ee90e&mc_eid=1436559a32

Although Glycine already has a 101 years history (last year they celebrated their 100th anniversary with a limited set of an F104 wrist- and pocket watch), it was probably the Glycine Airman, that set the brand on the map. The chronograph occupies a choice position in watchmaking as a complication in its own right. Measuring elapsed times provides immediate visualisation of the desired function, but making it work is an additional mechanical challenge, because starting a chronograph disturbs the main gear trains. To alleviate this problem, Breguet has fitted its new Tradition Chronographe Indépendant 7077 model with two independent trains. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=6989974&rid=21#msg_6989974\

HYT (The Hydro Mechanical Horologists) changes the timepiece game with a brand new liquid-filled watch development. Developed in partnership with APRP (Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi), the H3 has an impressive 170-hour battery reserve. It has bellows built on opposite ends that pump phosphorescent liquid through a tube in that gradually disappears and refills in a retrograde cycle in coordination with the rotating dial every six hours. The story of the Armin Strom brand goes back nearly half a century. WatchTime Editor-in-Chief Joe Thompson takes us back in this feature article from our October 2014 issue. In 1967, Armin Strom, a 29-year-old watchmaker who specialized in clock restoration, opened a clock store in the town of Burgdorf, Switzerland, in Canton Bern. He soon branched out into skeletonizing watch movements, paring away material from their bridges and plates until only enough was left to ensure the components would function, then decorating the remaining surfaces with manual engraving.http://www.watchtime.com/featured/skeleton-crew-exploring-armin-strom/?utm_source=WatchTime+Daily+Update&utm_campaign=8046ce7d60-WT+Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8338768216-8046ce7d60-14531153&mc_cid=8046ce7d60&mc_eid=1436559a32

Angelus was founded by the brothers Albert and Gustav Stolz in 1891, in Le Locle. The Stolzes had studied under Henri Sandoz of the Tavannes Watch Company, and began their own company at a time when the watch business was booming. In the coming decades they established Angelus as a respected maker of both watches and watch movements. By the 1930s, its chronographs had become a major part of the business, and would become the brand’s most renowned creations. Angelus quickly adopted the design (conceived by Breitling) of a two-pusher chronograph, like this one from 1935.http://www.watchtime.com/wristwatch-industry-news/industry/brand-to-watch-angelus-returns/?utm_source=WatchTime+Daily+Update&utm_campaign=8046ce7d60-WT+Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8338768216-8046ce7d60-14531153&mc_cid=8046ce7d60&mc_eid=1436559a32

Admittedly, I do not dive. In fact – and this has been a secret until now – it took me a lot of effort to even get my swimming diploma when I was a young boy. For my parents, this must have been hell; I hated water and didn’t want to be near it. Things have changed a bit, however. Although I am still not much of a swimmer, I do like to take a plunge in the pool when I am on holiday. And being a watch enthusiast, and a very modest collector, I like to have the right watch on my wrist when I do.
