Alpina is, like so many of the smaller Swiss watch companies, a new brand with a very old name. The Alpina of old was quite a respected maker, that sadly fell victim to the quartz crisis of the 80s, forced to shut its doors due to lack of demand in the face of less expensive, more precise timepieces.
